Description

This face to face one day phlebotomy practical workshop training covers all the elements you will need to start taking blood. You will be provided with the background and rationale for blood taking practice and an exploration of the equipment and processes. You will then be getting stuck into the hands on practice of phlebotomy using our high quality and realistic equipment, and guided by our experienced instructor.

 

So who is the course suitable for?

The course is suitable for anyone who is new to phlebotomy or looking for a practical skills workshop to accompany any theory training they have done. This may be include those who have not practiced their skills for some time or may be changing their role in healthcare organisations.

 

Who is the trainer?

So what’s included in this phlebotomy practical workshop training course?

This one day face to face practical workshop will provide you with hands on time with our experienced trainer to practice all the skills that you will have learned about in your theory part of the course.

So what’s NOT included in this phlebotomy training course?

You will observe practical demonstrations throughout the course and you will have the option to explore/practice with the equipment. 

The course doesn’t cover cannulation. This requires an additional course.

Whilst the course covers blood taking techniques for children, it does not cover techniques such as scalp and heel prick samples which are specialist skills requiring additional training.

Arterial blood gas technique and analysis are not covered on this course

Venous blood gases can be obtained from the principles learned on this course.  However, using blood gas machines and blood gas analysis are not covered on the course.

 

Are there any other considerations with this training?

Practical face-to-face workshop session times usually run from 9.30am – 4.30pm, however we can work around the needs of your organisation. 

 

Where are the venues for the workshops?

Workshops can be run anywhere around the UK either in your venue or we can organise that for you.

Please note that all of our phlebotomy training follows national and international guidance on best practices for taking blood. The guidance states that competence in phlebotomy practices should be an essential part of the final evaluation of those training as health workers, and that regular in-service training and supportive supervision should be provided. Our free phlebotomy competency workbook provides a framework for guiding supervised practice. All health workers undertaking phlebotomy must also be trained in infection prevention and control procedures, and sharps disposal.
