However, B12 injections are Prescription Only Medications (POMs), and you may only administer them when working under an appropriate legal framework—such as a PGD or PSD—and when both you and your employer are satisfied that you are competent. You must also have undertaken formal injection technique training. Supervised practice and competency assessment is essential before administering B12 injections independently.

Note: Although a Vitamin B12 injection is not an immunisation, the practical skills required and knowledge base required is in line with that of administering an immunisation. Therefore in order to administer Vitamin B12 injections, the training guidance in the national minimum standards for immunisation should be adopted for both non-registered professionals and registered professionals.
