This course follows UKHSA and national immunisation guidance. To deliver Shingles vaccination, clinicians must have completed a foundation immunisation training course, undertake supervised practice in their workplace, and should only administer vaccines independently when both they and their employer are confident in their competence.
This Shingles short course is part of the ‘Health Academy Short Course’ series and provides clinicians with specific information related to Shingles disease and the Shingrix® vaccine.
This course is suitable for all healthcare worker, including Nurses, Pharmacists, and health care support workers who may administer this vaccine in practice.
Firstly, this is an interactive, and engaging online short course. We have therefore included all of the modules relevant to shingles disease and the shingles vaccine.
This Shingles vaccine short course is online therefore assessment is a written multiple choice assessment.
Varicella and varicella vaccine training is available in a separate course.
Please also note that Public Health England recommend a period of supervised practice in addition to comprehensive foundations of immunisation training for new immunisers (PHE). This ‘Short Course’ will take approximately 60 minutes to complete.

You are right that the Shingrix® vaccine lesson does not have a specific video showing the preparation of the vaccine like we have done in the Zostavax® vaccine lesson. This is something we are looking to do as soon as we are able. If you look in the ‘Administration section’ we have provided an outline there with a link to the SPC.
