Yes, you will be issued with a certificate on successful completion of the course

Assessment by the instructor will be continuous throughout the course

This course provides the knowledge and clinical framework to assess and support patients experiencing fertility concerns in primary care. However, practical competence must always be developed through supervised practice, workplace experience and local sign-off where required.

You should only move to autonomous assessment and management when you, your supervisor and your employer are confident that you are competent to do so. Service models and referral pathways differ across the UK, so you should always work within your professional scope of practice, local protocols and the competency expectations of your primary care or specialist service.

Description

Course features for managing menopause in primary care training

Gain the confidence to support patients from pre-conception advice through to fertility assessment and referral. This practical one-day course gives primary care professionals the essential knowledge needed to recognise fertility concerns, carry out an initial assessment, request appropriate investigations and support patients with clear, evidence-based advice.

The course explores fertility and reproductive physiology, pre-conception health, lifestyle optimisation and the role of primary care in early fertility support. Participants will learn how to take a structured fertility history, identify key risk factors, recognise common causes of infertility in both men and women, and understand when further investigation is appropriate.

The course also covers how to interpret common fertility investigations and when to refer patients to specialist fertility services. Key conditions affecting fertility, including polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, premature ovarian insufficiency and male factor infertility, are explored in more detail, alongside their impact on fertility and treatment options.

Participants will also consider the emotional impact of fertility concerns and the importance of sensitive, patient-centred communication. Practical case discussions will help apply learning to real-world primary care consultations and build confidence in decision-making.

By the end of the course, participants will have a clear understanding of fertility care in primary care, including pre-conception support, initial assessment, investigation, referral pathways and treatment options available outside of primary care.

This is an introductory course, suitable for GPs, practice nurses and other healthcare professionals working in primary care who are new to fertility care or who wish to develop and improve their existing knowledge and confidence. Upon successful completion of the course, participants earn a certificate in Fertility Care in Primary Care.
