This ½ day Annual Immunisation Update – Adult Programme is designed for Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) and Registered Healthcare Professionals (RHCPs) who are delivering adult vaccines only. The course covers Pneumococcal, Shingles, COVID-19, Influenza, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and includes an overview of safe administration of Vitamin B12 injections.

It has been developed in line with the latest National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Vaccination Training – UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

• Morning: 09.15 – 12.45 (UK)
• Afternoon: 13.30 – 17.00 (UK)

Who Is It For?

All HCSWs and RHCPs administering adult vaccines should complete annual immunisation update training to ensure safe and effective practice.

This course is suitable for:

• Experienced HCSWs delivering adult immunisations
• RHCPs (such as practice nurses or pharmacists) whose role is focused on adult vaccines only

What’s Included In This ½ Day Course?

This is an interactive, engaging, and comprehensive virtual update, including all the key modules recommended in the UKHSA standards.

Core Modules:

• The aims of vaccination, national vaccine policy and schedules
• The immune response to vaccines and how vaccines work
• Vaccine-preventable diseases
• Types of vaccines, their composition, indications and contraindications
• Current issues in vaccination
• Communicating effectively with patients, parents and carers
• Legal issues: consent and mechanisms to supply/administer vaccines
• Storage and handling of vaccines

Adult Vaccines & Injections (included in this update):

• Pneumococcal
• Shingles
• Seasonal Influenza
• COVID-19
• Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) (for those who this is applicable for)

✨ We’ve also included a brief update on Vitamin B12 injections, with a focus on safe intramuscular technique.

Please note: This course is not a replacement for comprehensive COVID-19 and Influenza training. Up-to-date seasonal training should be completed separately to ensure familiarity with the latest guidance, risk groups, and vaccine products.

Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support and Anaphylaxis Management are available in separate courses.

Are There Any Other Considerations With Immunisation Training?

Please also note that UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) recommend a period of supervised practice in addition to comprehensive foundations of immunisation training for new immunisers (UKHSA). As per Resus Council UK guidelines you should also be assessed as competent in Basic Life Support.
