Description
This is 1/2 day Annual Immunisation Update virtual training course for Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) including Pnuemococcal, Shingles & Vitamin B12 injections that has been developed in line with the ‘National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Immunisation Training for Healthcare Support Workers – PHE.
Morning courses run from 09.15 – 12.45 (UK)
Afternoon course run from 13.30 – 17.00 (UK)
So who is it suitable for?
All HCSWs administering vaccines should undertake annual immunisation training to ensure they stay up to date in their practice. This course is therefore suitable for any experienced HCSWs administering vaccines and wishing to update.
So what’s included in this 1/2 day Annual Immunisation Update virtual course?
Firstly, this is an interactive, engaging, and comprehensive virtual 1/2 day course. We have therefore included all of the annual update modules recommended in the National Minimum Standards for Immunisation Training (PHE) document.
Annual Immunisation Update – Core Modules
- Current issues in immunisation
- Recent epidemiology of vaccine preventable disease
- Any changes to vaccine recommendations or national policy
- Update on vaccine ordering, storage and administration
- Any changes to legislation relevant to vaccination
- Review of current practice, recent vaccine incidents and
identification of areas for improvement - Q&A session for problems encountered in practice
Vaccine Preventable Diseases
We have also include any update information for vaccine products for Healthcare Support Workers including:
- Pneumococcal vaccines
- Shingles vaccines
In addition Vitamin B12 injections updates are included in this course
So what’s NOT included in this Annual Immunisation Update virtual training course?
Adult and paediatric Basic Life support and Anaphylaxis Management are available in separate courses.

Are there any other considerations with immunisation training?
Please also note that Public Health England recommend a period of supervised practice in addition to comprehensive foundations of immunisation training for new immunisers (PHE). As per Resus Council UK guidelines you should also be assessed as competent in Basic Life Support.
