Who are the trainers?

Alys Bunce – I have over 10 years of travel health nursing experience working predominantly for Nomad as a Specialist Education Nurse and Lead Nurse in their travel clinics. I am also a qualified teacher and has worked as an adult education lecturer. The majority of my work time is spent writing and delivering clinical training programmes including immunisation, phlebotomy and travel health. I also write for a travel health journal and even find time to be a mum to two young children.

Euan Naismith – As a registered nurse I have been training and supporting travel health nurses and pharmacists for over ten years, as well as working directly in clinics around the UK as a specialist travel health adviser. The main focus of my work is on creating engaging learning experiences that simplify complicated subjects such as immunology and tropical diseases. My qualifications include Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training, Diploma in Tropical Nursing (LSHTM), Diploma in Travel Medicine (RCPSG), and I am a Member of the Faculty of Travel Medicine (RCPSG)

Neil Ramdhun – I’m a registered nurse in the UK and a Full Member of the Resuscitation Council (UK). I specialise in Public Health, Paediatrics, Tropical Diseases, Minor Injuries & Illnesses and Clinical Education. Having headed up the Clinical Education department of a leading UK provider of Immunisation & OH services my focus is on ensuring high quality training solutions. My qualifications include Diploma in Tropical Nursing (LSHTM) and Level 3 Education & Training.

Tanya Rodrigues – I am a Registered General Nurse and have been training, managing, and supporting travel health and immunisation clinicians in clinics throughout the UK. In roles such as CQC Lead I have had extensive experience with compliance and maintaining clinical standards as well as supporting clinicians to meet regulations. My focus now is on developing and delivering high quality training courses and student placement programmes as well as supporting clinical training functions across the business.

Becky Swadling – I am an independent Travel Health Specialist Nurse and have been working in Travel Health for over 22 years. My qualifications include the Diploma in Travel Medicine (RCPSG) and I am an associate member of the Faculty of Travel Medicine (RCPSG). I have been an executive committee member of the British Global Travel Health Association (BGTHA), Editor of the BGTHA Journal, and I am a module lead on the post graduate Diploma of Travel Medicine at the RCPSG. I work with Boots Pharmacies in supporting their Travel service and review and write PGDs for Nomad Travel Clinics. My main passion however is teaching Travel Health.

So what’s not included?

Health Academy are also able of offer Basic Life support and Anaphylaxis training in separate courses.

Other considerations

It is important for all clinicians who are new to Travel Health to undergo supervised practice in their workplace. Details of this and a comprehensive ‘Competency Assessment Tool for Travel Health Practitioners’ can be found in the Travel Health Good Practice Guidelines (RCPSG).

Please also note that Public Health England strongly recommend a period of supervised practice in addition to comprehensive training when the practitioner is new to immunisation.
